Augustus, 27 BC - 14 AD. Cistophoric Tetradrachm (Silver, 26.5 mm, 11.72 g, 1 h), uncertain mint in the Provincia Asia, soon after 27 BC. IMP CAESAR Bare head of Augustus to right. Rev. AVGVSTVS Spinx seated to right, with her tail pointed upwards. BMC 702. BN 927. Cohen 31. RICĀ² 527. RPC 2204. Sutherland - (but O4 var./R1 var.). Same obverse die as Numismatica Ars Classica 72 (2013), 558. Very rare. A coin of wonderful style, lightly toned, well-struck, well-centered and with a fiercely powerful portrait of Augustus. Some flatness on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
